Abstrakt     Reports in the literature show that the use of AEDs generally improve survival after resuscitation of cardiac arrest in prehospital setting although the results vary greatly according to the environment and local EMS system characteristics. The aim of the presented research is to identify the possibilities and benefits of the implementation of AEDs on the territory of prehospital EMS service in Celje. The calculation was made separately for the first responder defibrillation system (FRD) and for the public access defibrillation system (PAD). The overall four-year survival of cardiac arrest patients resuscitated prehospitaly was 14,1%. The implementation of FRD and PAD would increase the overall survival up to 16,2% and 17,3% respectively. The calculated costs per saved life would be 23.000 EUR for FRD and 130.000 EUR for PAD. Our calculation is based on numerous presumptions therefore the real benefit should be tested in a pilot study.
