Abstrakt		The pilot (trial) project of helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) in Slovenia was started in July 2003. The project is a product of collaboration of four ministries: ministry of health, defence, internal affairs and transportation. The main goal of this trial project is to estimate the real need for HEMS in Slovenia and to find and evaluate organizational and medical solutions appropriate for the public health system, particularly for the existing ground emergency medical service. The other goal of the project is to pave the way for development of future regular HEMS in Slovenia. This article addresses medical and organizational aspects of this pilot project.
