Abstrakt     Nowdays there is an increased need for the use of sedation and anesthetic outside of hospitals. ln our choice of anesthetic we must be aware of all its advantages and drawbacks. We must at all times be prepared to sofve possible complications related to the given anesthetic and sedation. Only thus we will be able to choose correct anesthetic for the patient we are treating. There is no ideal anesthetic. Among the intravenous anesthetics we have at present the choice of thiopental, etomidat and propofol. Many comparative studies pointed out good and poor sides of these agents. However, little is known on their use outside hospitals. All the bigger studies were performed within hospital anestsiology or emergency departments where the agents were used also by non-anesthesiologists.
