Abstrakt		Quality is becoming a more and more important concept in all fields of health care including dentistry. Prevention of infection is an important aspect of quality in dental care. Preventive measures aimed at reducing the risk of infection must be implemented consistently by the nurse and all other members of the dental team. Hygiene standards prescribe the proper procedures for cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of all types of dental instruments, equipment and prosthetic appliances, monitoring of sterilization processes, control and evidence of sterility, and storage of sterilized items. Standardization of hygiene maintenance procedures is a prerequisite for preventing the spread of infections among patients and staff.
Izvleček		Kakovost postaja vedno pomembnejši element v sistemu zdravstvenega varstva in o njej vedno pogosteje govorimo tudi na področju zdravstvene nege. Da bi lahko vse medicinske sestre dosledno izvajale ukrepe za preprečevanje prenosa okužb, je potrebno pripraviti higienske standarde. V njih je opisan pravilen potek čiščenja, dezinfekcije in sterilizacije nasadnih instrumentov, zobozdravniških instrumentov in drobnega instrumentarija ter razkuževanje zobnoprotetičnih izdelkov. Zelo pomemben je tudi nadzor nad sterilizacijo, kontrola sterilnosti, evidenca sterilnosti in shranjevanje. Standardizacija higienskih postopkov je pogoj, da preprečimo tveganje za okužbo bolnikov, zdravstvenih delavcev in okofja.
