Abstrakt     Cardiac arrest outside the hospital is common and has a poor outcome. Permanent neurologic deficit is frequent after successful return of spontaneous circulation. Until recently, we had no specific neuroprotective therapy with documented efficacy. Evidence from animal as well as human studies from the past two years show that controlled mild to moderate hypothermia after successful resuscitation may significantly reduce ischemic neurological damage. In the following article the method is described along with first domestic experiences.
