Abstrakt     Cardiovascular diseases are one of the main causes for premature illness and mortality in most European countries. In Slovenia, cardiovascular diseases also account for 40% of all deaths. Primary prevention and promotion of a healthy lifestyle become increasingly important in trying to prevent the development of cardiovascular diseases. Behavioural factors can be influenced and avoided as early in life as possible (bodily inactivity, unhealthy nutritional habits, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and stress). The purpose of the research »Evaluation of risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases in participants that engage in the activities of the Slovenian Heart Foundation«, is to contribute to the preparation and realization of a future, more efficient programme and to set up an information support for further monitoring and investigating risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases in participants that engage in our Foundation's activities. On a representative sample of 1000 participants engaged in activities organized by the Slovenian Heart Foundation all over Slovenia, I carried out a research, based on a questionnaire and blood pressure and cholesterol measurements.
