Abstrakt     The article represents an attempt to summarise our present knowledge of feeling rules, which have been discovered in the last decade or so. Among the first authors to point oul their existence were Hochschield, a sociologist, and Averill, a constructionist psychologist. Another two authors, Lewis and Michalson, both developmental psychologists, provided a structural model of emotions, suitable to serve as a theoretical basis for further research on feeling rules. They carried out some basic experiments which proved that children learn these rules as a part of social interaction quite early in their lives. Certain rules and their implications are described in some detail: how to express emotions, when to exress them, how to manage, label and interpret them. Some implications for psychopathology are outlined as well. Finally, Averill's classification of feeling rules is presented. Concerning the type of rule, they can be either constitutive, ulative or heuristic concerning the domain, they can pertain to appraisal, behavior, prognosis or attribution.
