Abstrakt     Introduction: Obesity is a disease caused by psychological, social and genetic factors. Easier access to food and higher food diversity as well as growingly less bodily activity together with the stress way of life of the modern man increase the number of obese people. Epidemiologic researches have shown that the incidence of obesity in the world persists to grow. The portion of overweight or obese people is substantial also in Slovenia: the average for Slovenia, including women and men is 43.3 %. The increased body weight is associated with increased risk of developing various health problems. Even a small weight loss, 5 to 10%, will help improve health. The majority of weight-loss programmes, which work in the short term, are inefficient in the long term. An examination of the results of two-year weight-loss programmes via dieting, behaviour therapy and physical exercise has shown that they end up when the participants gain new lower weight. According to research results the reduced body weight gradually increases again after the completed programme. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to confirm the correctness and effectiveness of our method with regard to the short-term effectiveness of the weight-loss programme and the long-term effectiveness of the body-weight maintenance programme, as well as to confirm the effectiveness of the programme with regard to health risk reduction, including ITM, blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure, which influence the development of chronic noninfectious diseases, and to determine the impacts of social factors, age, sex, education and social status upon persevering in the programme and maintenance of lower weight after the completed weight-losing process.
