Abstrakt		Despite an immense progress of microinvasive surgery, introduction of advances in surgical techniques, improved knowledge of pathogenesis of infections, widespread use of surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis and shortening of the duration of postoperative patient care, surgical infections continue to be a major cause of morbidity and mortality for patients undergoing surgical procedures. This article deals with types of surgical wounds, risk factors for surgical site infections, types of surgical infections as well as preventive measures implemented in operating rooms to reduce and prevent these infections.
