Abstrakt     The study of RNA and DNA tumor viruses has revealed major basic concepts of cancer development, including the functions of cellular oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes and viral oncogenes. It is now well established that different viruses belonging to retroviruses, papillomaviruses, herpesviruses, hepadnaviruses and flaviviruses have an important role in the etiology of human cancer. This brief review describes the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying viral carcinogenesis. Also the oncogenic potential of the best-studied human tumor viruses, such as human T-cell leukaemia/lymphoma virus type 1, human papillomaviruses, Epstein-Barr virus, human herpesvirus 8, hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus is discussed in detail.
Kratek pregledni članek opisuje molekularne in celične mehanizme virusne karcinogeneze. Prav tako je podrobno prikazana onkogena zmožnost najbolje proučenih človeških tumorskih virusov: človeškega virusa levkemije/limfoma celic T tipa 1, papilomavirusov, virusa Epstein-Barr, človeškega herpesvirusa 8, virusa hepatitisa B in virusa hepatitisa C.
