Abstrakt		Sexually transmitted infections are a major health problem, especially for adolescents and young adults. One of the mainstays in the management of sexually transmitted infections is acdon to limit the spread of infection. Prevention and therapy are based on the following concepts: education and counseling on safe sexual behavior, early identification of asimptomatically infected persons and symptomatic patients unlikely to seek diagnosis and treatment, effective diagnosis and treatment of infected persons, evaluation, treatment and counseling of sex partners of persons with a sexually transmitted infection and pre-exposure vaccination ofpersons at risk. The evaluation and management of STIs has markedly changed in recent years: treatment options are currently available that have higher pacient compliance and acceptability and easier dosing regimens than previous regimens.
