Abstrakt     The programme of the Practice Firm was adopted in Slovenia based on experience abroad during the time when the gap between the qualification of the unemployed and the needs of employers starfed increasing. Thanks to experiential learning and practical training, the participants of the programme acquire first working experience or upgrade their insufficient knowledge. The survey of the participants and employment advisers at the Employment Service of Slovenia, who direct participants to the programme, revealed great emphasis on the need to connect the training programmes to which the Employment Service refers the unemployed with the labour force market. When referring the unemployed to the programmes, the Employment Service mostly takes into account the needs and wishes of the unemployed; the gained knowledge is soon outdated if a person is not employed. On the other hand, we establish that the knowledge gained in schools is no longer sufficient, since the analysis of the requirements for the post of economics officer showed that employers set additional conditions for recruitment, namely: knowledge of foreign languages, computer lit eracy, other know-how, etc. The Practice Firm programme needs to be brought closer to the employers, since by selecting a future co-worker from among the programme participants a qualified employee could be obtained for a certain post. An unemployed person can in the Practice Firm programme acquire practical knowledge in view of the previously expressed needs of the employer and the requirements for a post, which would enable fhaf person to carry out work tasks quickly and well, without lengthy induction. This is also a way leading to cost cutting in a Firm.
