Abstrakt     Supplemental oxygen therapy has been demonstrated to improve the quality of life and increase survival tn patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Home supplemental oxygen therapy is used in patients with clinically diagnosed COPD and chronic hypoxemia. Recently approved indication is also hypoxemia in terminal lung cancer patients. Home oxygen can be supplied by different sources, the most widely used is oxygen concentrator. Therapy is reasonable if used minimally 17 haurs daily, patients compliance has to be ensured. Not appropriate for such treatment are smakers, alcoholics, patients with mentally disorders and without appropriate living home conditions. The patient should be clinically monitored; reevaluation of arterial blood gases should be done after 1, 6, and 12 months and in severe exacerbations of COPD.
