Abstrakt | Venous air embolism (VAE) may occur during any surgical procedure when the operative site is above the level of the heart and non-collapsible veins are exposed to the air. Because of nearly 100% like hood of air embolism during craniotomies in the sitting position, monitoring for air embolism during this procedure is essential. We report a case of massive, repeated episode of VAE during a surgical removal of medulloblastoma in the fourth ventricle in the sitting position. Aberrant transversal venous sinus was the site of profound air entry. Patient's hemodynamic status improved with prompt diagnosis and proper management but unfortunately, the postoperative complications were fatal. | |
