Abstrakt		In the article, historical overview and techniques of the classical herniorrhaphy are presented. Until the 1980 s, Bassini repair or some of its modifications was the standard operation. Later, it was replaced by Shouldice repair. Nowadays, classical herniorrhaphy is seldom performed, due to superior results of both open and laparoscopic repair with the use of prosthetic materials.
