Abstrakt		This thesis deals with the role and significance of communication at the Department of Brachyradiotherapy of the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana The main emphasis is laid on the communication with the patients who need special nursing care due to irradiation with radionuclides or with implanted sealed sources, on the safety at work in the area of irradiation, and on basic protection against irradiation. Empirical study comprises an analysis of survey that included 50 patients admitted to the Department of Brachyradiotherapy. The purpose of this study was exclusively to prepare and write my thesis. The main conclusion in the discussion is that a straightforward approach to the patient is essential because it allows to provide the patient with as much information as he/she needs in order to tolerate all interventions that are required in the treatment by brachytherapy better and with less pain and fear. In most cases, we help the patients to control their fear of the unknown.
