Abstrakt     Due to their occurence in different age groups, often as a part of MEN syndromes and with multicentric primary sites, to their numerous biologically active secretory products and biological and clinical characteristics, tumors of neural crest origin pose a diagnostic and therapeutic problem. This book reviews in brief the basic aspects of sympathochromaffine system embriology and structture, classification and clinical appearance of various neural crest tumors, basic and dynamic biological tests and imaging methods in diagnosis of pheochromocytoma, neuroblastoma and medullary carcinoma of the thyroid. The most important parts of the book are the chapters dedicated to specific procedures in nuclear medicine that made possible functional visualization of the neural crest tumors. After a brief outline of the development of various labelled benzylguanidine derivatives, special emphasis is given to pharmacokinetics and methodological aspects of 131-I-mIBG scintigraplry in adults and children, semiquantitative and quantitative analysis of mIBG scans, as well as to whole-body scintigraphy with 99mTc(V)-DMSA.
