Abstrakt     Introduction. Industrial development in the last century brought about industrial pollution of soil in the Celje region, as indicated by the testing of environmental soil for toxic metals. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between cadmium and lead contents in foods of plant origin produced in the Celje region and pollution of soil by these toxic metals in one part of the region. Method of work In 2002, 168 samples of foods made from crops cultivated at the Teharje (113) and Medlog (55) farms were tested for cadmium and lead contents. The results were evaluated in accordance with current environmental legislation and compared with the testing of foods of plant origin produced in other Slovene regions. Results. The foods tested had a high cadmium content, which frequently exceeded maximum permitted levels. In the majority of foods tested the levels of cadmium were notably higher than in foods produced elsewhere in Slovenia. The levels of cadmium were highest in wheat, lettuce, beat, carrot and potato samples, and exceeded notably the mean cadmium levels for Slovenia. Foods made from plants cultivated in the Teharje region had higher cadmium levels than those from the Medlog area. The lead content in the crops was similar to lead levels in foods made from plants cultivated in other Slovene regions. Conclusion. In view of the above mentioned findings, increased cadmium levels in the soil of Teharje and Medlog remain a major environmental issue, the more so because farms in these regions yield relatively good crops and a considerable amount of domestic produce is sold on the market. Also, most homegrown crops are the only source of nutrition for the local population. The results of the study show that cadmium content in foods can be used as an indicator of cadmium load in soil. The same conclusion, however, cannot be drawn for lead.
Izvleček     Uvod: V obdobju industrijskega razvoja v prejšnjem stoletju je prišlo na območju Celja do izrazitega onesnaženja tal, kar je pokazala raziskava toksičnih kovin v tleh na območju UE Celje. Namen te raziskave je bil ugotoviti, ali se onesnaženost tal s kadmijem in svincem, ki je bila ugotovljena v delu občine Celje, odslikava na živilih rastlinskega izvora, pridelanih na tem območju. Metoda dela: V okviru raziskave je bilo leta 2002 odvzetih 168 vzorcev živil rastlinskega izvora, pridelanih na območju KS Teharje (113) in KS Medlog (55). Vzorci so bili preiskani na vsebnost kadmija in svinca. Rezultati analiz so bili ocenjeni glede na veljavno zakonodajo, opravljena pa je bila tudi primerjava z živili rastlinskega izvora, ki so bila pridelani drugod v Sloveniji. Rezultati: Analiza živil je pokazala, da vsebujejo visoko vsebnost kadmija. Koncentracija kadmija je bila pogosto nad maksimalno dovoljeno koncentracijo. V večini živil je bila vsebnost kadmija bistveno višja kot v živilih, pridelanih drugod v Sloveniji. Najvišja povprečna vsebnost je bila ugotovljena v vzorcih pšenice, solate, pese, korenja in krompirja. Vsebnosti so veliko višje od povprečnih v Sloveniji. Živila, pridelana na območju Teharij, so bila bolj obremenjena s kadmijem od tistih iz območja Medloga. Vsebnost svinca v preiskanih živilih je podobna, kot je bila ugotovljena v živilih rastlinskega izvora, pridelanih drugod v Sloveniji. Zaključek: To kaže na to, da je problematika povečane vsebnosti kadmija v tleh na območju Teharij in Medloga še vedno pereča. Še posebej zato, ker so količine živil, ki jih na tem območju pridelajo, sorazmerno visoke, tako da jih pridelovalci prodajajo. Neredko so številna doma pridelana živila edini vir prehranjevanja prebivalcev tega območja. Rezultati kažejo, da je mogoče kadmij v živilih uporabiti kot kazalec obremenjenosti tal s to kovino, v primeru svinca pa tako sklepanje ni zanesljivo.
