Abstrakt		The Laboratory of Gynecologic Cytology at Maribor Teaching Hospital has been active without interruption since 1955. It is included in ZORA, the national program for organized early detection of precancerous changes. For evaluation of the quality of work the ZORA program applies the calculation of means and deviations between individual laboratories in the observed quality indicators. Cytologic examination of cervix uteri smears remains the only relatively reliable screening test. Since cytology is a subjective method of limited reliability, the quality indicators should be constantly verified. In cytology, quality assurance is based on the comparison of the results of cytologic with those of histologic investigation. Reexamination of false negative cervix uteri smears is the optimum method, improving the precision of cytologic diagnosis and decreasing the number of false negative results.
