Abstrakt     Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a common disease which is often recognized to late. It is a common manifestation of systemic atherosclerosis. PAD is also associated with an increased risk of coronary and cerebrovascular disease. The measurements of ankle-brachial index with a continuous-wave Doppler ultrasound instrument is very sensitive and objective method. Early diagnosed PAD may reduce the overall risk of cardiovascular mortality. Because of being overwhelmed with work the general practitioners still don't check regularly all those patients who might be at risk for having PAD and this is one of the reasons the disease is diagnosed later than it should be.
