Abstrakt     Peripheral arterial disease is a common disorder associated with the presence of coronary or cerebrovascular disease. Since individuals with peripheral arterial disease are at increased risk of cardiovascular ischaemic event, early identification of this population and more aggressive medical interventions could substantially improve both morbidity and survival. Mostly used indicator of the presence and severity of peripheral arterial disease is ankle-brachial pressure index, decreased represents an increased risk for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular event especially in asymptomatic patients. Since the major threat to patients with peripheral arterial disease is from secondary cardiovascular ischaemic events they need aggressive medical therapies for primary prevention, this include: antiplatelet therapy, managing high blood pressure, improving cholesterol and lipid levels.
