Abstrakt		Ever since the independence of Slovenia, the growth of its insurance industry has been faster than that of the national GDP. Slovene insurance companies are reaching the limits of solvency and improving their competitive position. Immediately before the country's accession to the EU, Slovene insurance industry has a realistic chance for accelerated growth on the European market provided that it manages to speed up its capital and business integration and offer a responsive package of services in co-operation with banks and other financial institutions. The development potential of the Slovene insurance industry is based on the so far unexploited absorption capacity of the Slovene insurance market, particularly with respect to life insurance. On this basis, it is possible to predict that the growth of the Slovene insurance industry will continue to exceed the national GDP growth in the next few years and that the Slovene insurance market will be deepening at an accelerated pace.
