Abstrakt     Persons suffering from traumatic brain injury can have a wide extend of disabilities and complications. Therefore they should be treated in the team of experts from different professions. The role of physiotherapist in the rehabilitation team is an important one to relearn motor functions and prevent complications. In the article the planning of program of physiotherapy is presented considering patient's abilities and cognitive level. To plan the program, settle aims and work, physiotherapist needs first to assess patient's motor abilities by observing patient carefully and trying to assess the cognitive level as well. The Rancho Los Amigos Levels of Cognitive Function Scale is used. The levels of the scale are important for proper planning of the physiotherapeutic program in different stages of recovery. Program should always be planned individually. Bobath concept for neurological patients can be used, concept of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, model of motor relearning and functional electrical stimulation as well. No matter which approach physiotherapist chooses, the aim is to achieve the best possible patient's independence. The role of physiotherapist is also to test and advise the suitable orthosis if necessary, usually with the aim to facilitate gait or some other functional activity. The program of physiotherapy is often longlasting, especially with more severe injuries and after the first discharge from the rehabilitation institute it is often not yet finished. Therefore the patient should be followed after the discharge and attend the program of physiotherapy as outpatient or sometimes treated at home.
