Abstrakt | The neuropsychiatric consequences of traumatic brain injury (TBI) may be divided into disorders that are also seen in patients without brain injury and those, that are unique to patients with TBI. Indications for drug treatments are the same or similar as in psychiatric syndromes, disorders or illnesses regardless of TBI. For that reason complete spectrum of psychotropic drugs is used to treat psychiatric conditions.following TBZ The most important groups of drugs used are antipsychotics, antidepressants, anxiolytics and hypnotics, mood stabilizers and antidementics. Additional caution is needed due to greater sensitivity to side-effects of almost all psychotropic drugs. Dosing usually starts with lower doses and slower dose titration. Efficacy is more frequently followed as well as patient compliance. Additional symptoms need special treatment consideration: agitation, impulsivity, irritability, aggressive behavior, disordered sleep, volition, pessimism, despair and suicidal behavior. Holistic approach to treatment includes different forms of psychotherapy complementary to drug therapy: counseling, supportive psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy and some other forms of psychotherapy. Treatment of patients after TBI follows rules of expert team and by rule includes relatives and those, who are taking care for the patient. | |
