Abstrakt     In present time infectious diseases remain important cause of morbidity and mortality in children as well as in adult patients. Infections in children differ from those in adults, in terms of their epidemiology, etiology pathogenesis, management and prevention and therefore a combination of pediatric and infection knowledge is mandatory for a proper aproach and effective treatment. The pattern of infectious disease in children is constantly changing as new pathogen and new infectious diseases emerge. The two major problems in the management of infectious diseases in children are the increase in bacterial resistance and the growing numbers of immunocompromised children. The training program in pediatric infectious diseases intended to improve the level of care of children with infectious diseases. The role of pediatrician infectologist and pediatric infectious diseases training programms in Europe and in Slovenia are described.
