Abstrakt     Each year, 5 to 10 people per 100 000 inhabitants of developed countries suffer subarachnoid hemorrhage, which is in about 80 % due to rupture of an arterial aneurysm at the base of the brain. About one third of the patients die before reaching the hospital, another third remain permanently neurologically impaired and only abouta third fully recover. Active treatment aims to exclude the offending aneurysm from the arterial circulation and thus prevent further, possibly fatal rupture. Treatment may be operative by craniotomy and surgical clipping of the base of the aneurysm, or endovascular by embolization of the aneurysm by detachable coils. This paper discusses the technique of endovascular embolization of cerebral aneurysms by detachable platinum coils and presents angiographic images of successful treatment at various anatomical localizations.
