Abstrakt | Background. The aim of the study was to apply computer-assisted image analysis in establishing the intensity of cerebral vasospasm in basilar arteries and assesing morphologic changes by densitometric method in the central noradrenergic areas of the rabbit brain after experimentally induced subarachnoid hemorrhage and exclusion of the central sympathetic nervous system. Methods. Perfusion fixation of the tissue samples taken from New Zealand rabbits after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Dailiy testing of the spastic effect of experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage for a period of 8 days using our original method of measuring the »corrugation coefficient« of the vessel intima. Simultaneous testing on two levels of the effects of sympathetic nervous system exclusion on day 8 after subarachnoid hemorrhage using computer-assisted image analysis: - By measuring the corrugation coefficient of the vessel intima, - By evaluating the degree of dopamine beta-hydroxylase immunoreactivity in the cytoplasm of noradrenergic neurons in hypothalamus and brain stem. Results. The results of the investigation showed a two-stage vasospasm course, namely strong corrugation of vessel intima in the first days after the induction of haemorrhage (acute vasospasm), a free interval with no evident vasospasm and developement of chronic vasospasm after day 6, with marked corrugation of the vessel intima on days 7 and 8.
