Abstrakt		Levosimendan is a calcium-sensitizing drug that stabilizes the troponin C molecule in cardiac muscle, thus prolonging its effects on contractile proteins. Thereby it effectively improves cardiac hemodynamics, which results in increased cardiac output and decreased pulmonary wedge pressure. The results of clinical studies have demonstrated that Levosimendan therapy is not associated with heart rhythm disturbances and that it effectively improves the outcome of patients with acute heart failure. Therefore, Lemosimendan appears to represent an important new treatment for acute heart failure, and as such it is being increasingly used also in Slovenia.
