Abstrakt | In Slovenia, traffic accidents are the main cause of mortality due to injuries and the second most common cause of hospital treatment of trauma patients. According to Slovenia's Ministry of the Interior, 516 persons died on Slovenian roads in 2003 and 2004. Human error is the main cause of traffic accidents. Analysis of numerous studies has shown that blood alcohol level is by far the most important factor in causing traffic accidents. Drivers that are under the influence of alcohol during a traffic accident are 11 times more likely to cause a traffic accident and 4 times more likely to suffer a fatal injury than sober drivers in equivalent traffic accidents. According to the police, parlicipants in traffic that are under the influence of alcohol are responsible for one third of all traffic accidents with a fatal outcome and one quarter of all traffic accidents with severe injuries. | |
