Abstrakt | Common and tartary (bitter) buckwheat were exposed to two levels of UV-B radiation: ambient and enhanced UV-B radiation, corresponding to 17% reduction of ozone layer. The total amounts of UV-absorbing compounds were lower in buckwheat cultivated under ambient UV-B compared to those grown under enhanced UV-B levels. UV-B absorbing compounds also accumulated through the growing season. UV-B radiation caused a reduction in amounts of chlorophyll a during the time of intensive growth. Potential photochemical efficiency was unaffected due to enhanced UV-B radiation. | |
