Abstrakt     Background: When force is applied to the tooth many chemical messengers are released which interfere with the remodelling of alveolar bone and periodontal ligament. Endothelin is present in periodontal ligament and bone in physiological conditions. Its role in orthodontic tooth movement has not been explained. Material and methods: The study was performed on 21 male Wistar rats, which were divided into three groups. In the first two groups of animals, a closed coil spring was applied between the upper left first molar and upper incisors. Group 1 was additionally treated with daily subcutaneous administration of tezosentan. Group 3 received no treatment and served as the control group. Tooth movement was measured with a digital caliper on days 0, 7, 14, 21 and 25. Results: The distance between the left upper molar icisors decreased in all animals of groups 1 and 2. On day 25, tooth movement in group ated with tezosentan was significantly greater than in group 2 which did not receive tezosentan (1.65 ± 0.46 mm and 1.04 ± 0.38 mm respectively, p < 0.05). Conclusion: The endothelin system may play a role in biological control of tooth movement. Our results suggest that endothelin suppresses tooth movement in rats.
Izvleček     Izhodišče: Ob delovanju sile na zob se sproščajo številni celični mediatorji, ki vplivajo na preobllkovanje čeljustne kosti in pozobnice. Endotelin je v pozobnici in kosti prisoten v fizioloških razmerah. Njegova vloga pri ortodontskem premiku zob pri podganah pa še ni bila pojasnjena. Material in metoda: Poskuse smo izvedli na 21 podganjih samcih Wistar, ki smo jih razvrstili v tri skupine. Podganam iz prve in druge skupine smo med prvi zgornji kočnik in zgornja sekalca na levi strani namestili vlečno vzmet. Prvi skupini smo dnevno, 25 dni, podkožno dovajali tezosentan. Skupina podgan, ki ni imela nameščenih vlečnih vzmeti in ni prejemala tezosentana, je služila za kontrolo. S kljunastim merilom smo 0., 7., 14., 21. in 25. dan merili velikost premikov zob. Rezultati: Razdalja med zgornjim kočnikom in sekalcema se je zmanjšala pri vseh podganah z nameščeno vlečno vzmetjo. Premik zob je bil pri podganah iz prve skupine 25. dan poskusa značilno večji (1,65 ± 0,46 mm) kot pri podganah iz druge Ikupine(1,04±0,38 mm), ki tezosentana ni prejemala (p'< 0,05). Zaključek: Ugotovili smo, da je bendotelinski sistem lahko vključen v biološki nadzor premikov zob. Sklepamo, da endotelin premike zob zavira.
