Abstrakt     In 1989 and 1990, the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana, began carrying out certain activities for setting up a DNA laboratory based on a model of such a laboratory at the Institute of Legal Medicine at the University of Munster. Professor Brinkmann enabled the first meeting with our representative, who inspected the structure, equipment and performance of the DNA laboratory. In autumn 1995, the DNA laboratory at the Institute in Ljubljana actually began operating and, after the genetic population study was concluded, officially began conducting DNA testing in the field of paternity suits and, a year later, in the field of identifying biological traces in criminal matters. By constant improvement and cooperation in circular DNA testing with the German Association of Legal Medicine (GEDNAP), the laboratory strengthened its activity in the professional field and field of scientific research. Annually, we determine approximately 170 DNA personal profiles for the purpose of paternity suits and solve 60 cases of identifying biological matter for the needs of criminal procedures, with different numbers of samples.
