Abstrakt     Prostate cancer, despite being an increasingly important problem in developed countries, still remains a target of research because of insufficient knowledge of its genetic basis. A great variety of risk factors and candidate genes have to date been reported in correlation with it. Using TaqMan(R) technology, allelic discrimination for polymorphisms in IL-6, SDF 1, IL-9, CCR3 and PARC genes was performed in a cohort of prostate cancer patients and corresponding controls. In the present study, a statistically significant association was found between non-coding polymorphisms-174G/C in IL-6 and 801 G/A in SDF-1 genes and prostate cancer. Since Interleukin-6 and stromal cell-derived factor 1 are already known to be involved in prostate cancer, both SNPs maybe useful genetic markers for a predisposition to prostate cancer.
