Abstrakt     The use of serum tumor markers for the early detection of ovarian cancer has been limited because of their low sensitivity, specificity and low positive predictive value. We analyzed three tumor markers CA125, TPA and RCAS1 with a high likelihood of improving the diagnostic accuracy for early detection. Samples were obtained from 130 patients with benign, 14 patients with borderline, 64 patients with malignant ovarian neoplasm and from 82 healthy women. Reference intervals were determined for all three tumor markers. There was statistically significant difference in CA125 and TPA concentrations between premenopausal and postmenopausal healthy women and TPA concentrations increase statistically significant with the age of the healthy women. There was statistically significant correlation between measured tumor markers in whole investigated population of women. CA125, TPA and RCAS1 concentrations were significantly different between healthy women and patients with benign, borderline and malignant ovarian neoplasm (MANOVA p<0,001) and also between premenopausal and postmenopausal women (MANOVA p=0,026). There were no statistically significant differences in tumor markers concentrations between premenopausal and postmenopausal patients within the groups of patients considering histopathologic diagnosis (MANOVA p=0,763). We found that complementarity exists between the measured tumor markers. Among patients with clinically evident malignant tumors and negative CA125, 40% had elevated TPA and 60% had elevated RCAS 1 levels. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
