Abstrakt     Background Dacryocystorhinostomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat lacrimal obstruction on the level of lacrimal sac or nasolacrimal duct. According to the approach there are two techniques: external dacryocystorhinostomy and endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy. Due to nurnerous advantages, today endoscopic transnasal dacryocystorhinostomy is used as the treahnent of choice. The success of the operation depends on good visualisation of the operation site. In the patients who have a concomitant nasal pathology, the visualisation is less favourable, therefore the pathology needs to be corrected during the operation. Aim In Slovenia, endoscopic transnasal dacryocystorhinostomy has been carried out since 2000. Our aim was to establish the long-term success of the procedure because so far a systematic review evaluating the success has not been done. Therefore we invited the patients who already underwent the operation to another examination where we assessed the patency of lacrimal system. Additionally our intention was to find out whether there is a difference in success of the operation between the group of patients with the concomitant nasal pathology and the group of patients without it since no study stating these data has been published yet. Hypothesis The surgical treatment of lacrimal systetn obstruction using endoscopic transuasal dacryocystorhinostomy achieves the same level of long-term success in the group of patients with the concomitant nasal pathology as in the group without it, if the nasal pathology is corrected during the operation.
