Abstrakt     Compared to other European countries, Slovenia has a relatively small vaccine uptake for influenza. As, according to literature, the vaccine uptake depends on the advice and opinion of one's physician, the aim of this study was to define the attitude, barriers and standpoints of the Slovene vaccinating doctors against influenza. A raddom sample of 300 individuals was drawn from the registry of 1000 Slovene practising medical doctors, licensed for vaccinating by the Institut of public health. A self-applied, anonymous questionnaire was mailed to each of them. The 25 Lickert-type questions covered three areas: the characteristics of one's practice, data about vaccinating against influenza and a validated questionnaire about attitude towards preventive work and towards vaccination (regarding the »Health belief« model). The results were analysed by the SPSS 10.1 statistic package. Quantitative data was analysed by the t-test, while for the attributive (numerical) datathe chi-square test was applied. The Crombach alpha test was used to ascertain the interior reliability of the answers and the Person's coefficient F was used while calculating correlatin. Out of 175 responders with average age 46,65 years, only 45,7% stated, that they vaccinate regularly against influenza. Surpisingly, only one of all the participating doctors had influenza in the period of observation (i.e.2000/2001). Among other specialties of the participating doctors, significantly few pediatricians vaccinated themselves against influenza (p = 0,043). The general/family physicians vaccinated significatly more patients then other specialties (p = 0,028). In spite of more curative orientation, 70,3% participating physicians aswered thet the role of the general/family physicians in the preventive activities should be more pronounced.
