Abstrakt     In this study the c-erbB-2 oncoprotein expression was analysed on 34 lobular invasive breast carcinomas. The cases were diagnosed and treated at the University Hospital for Tumors, Zagreb from 1992 to 2001. C-erbB-2 expression was detected immunohistochemicaly using DA 485 antibody in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue section. Immunohistochemical results were scored as with the HercepTest. Results were interpreted as negative with 0 and 1+ reactions, weakly positive with 2+ reactions, and strongly positive with 3+ reactions. The aim of this study was to 1) determinate c-erbB-2 expression in lobular breast cancer, 2) compare c-erbB-2 expression in invasive component, noninvasive component and lymph node metastasis, compare cerbB-2 expression in invasive lobular carcinoma of the "classical" type and «variant» forms, 4) evaluate correlation between c-erbB-2 expression and survival data. Protein overexpression was detected in 32,35% of the cases. The overexpression of strong positive (3+) intensity was observed in 2.94% and the overexpression of weak positive (2+) intensity in 29,41% of the cases. In the intratumor analysis significantly higher (p = 0,002) c-erbB-2 overexpression was observed in noninvasive component of the tumor. Significant relationship between overall survival and c-erbB-2 expression was not found. Only three tumors were diagnosed as the "variant" forms. Weekly positive expression was observed in a pleomorphic and a solid type. In a tubulolobular type there was no observed overexpression. In this study overexpression of c-erbB-2 was observed in a high proportion (32,35%) of the lobular invasive carcinomas but almost all of the cases (90%) were weakly positive (2+). The weekly positive result is, according to some authors, a borderline result, which should be interpreted with caution, and have an unsatisfactory predictive value.
