Abstrakt     Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections in childhood. It could affect upper, lower urinary tract or both. The diagnosis depends on collection and analysis of an uncontaminated urine specimen. Many acquired and intrinsic host factors as well as bacterial virulence factors influence the development of UTI. Escherichia coli is the most common pathogen causing UTI during childhood. The selection of appropriate antimicrobial therapy depends on sensitivity of causing pathogen, while empiric antimicrobial therapy depends on known local resistance patterns of common pathogens.
