Abstrakt     Background. Slipped capital femoral epiphysis is an important orthopedic problem which emerges in early adolescence. Many hypotheses regarding its ethiology have been put forward (endocrine, vascular, hereditary, mechanical), however, a question, which of the impact factors is the most important one, has remained unanswered. In order to test the validity of the mechanical hypothesis, the values of biomechanical parameters of the population of hips with an increased risk for slipped capital femoral epiphysis should be evaluated and compared to the corresponding parameters of the population of healthy hips. As the relevant parameters we have chosen the shear and the dilative stresses in the femoral neck which are connected to the resultant hip joint force and the radial contact hip stress on the femoral head. These parameters can be determined by using the method HIPSTRESS and equations of elastomechanics describing the bending of the rod. The method HIPSTRESS is based on the mathematical model which uses as an input data the geometrical parameters of the hip and pelvis and the body weight.. Aim. The aim of the study is to determine the effect of the shear and dilative stresses on the slip of the capital femoral epiphysis. We will try to find out whether the geometry of the hip and pelvis of the patients that experience the slip, is on the average different than the geometry of healthy hips. Hypotheses. In the population of hips with elevated risk for the slip the values of the maximal shear stress in the growth cone are higher than in the population of healthy hips.
