Abstrakt     The identification of stress disorders would seem to be relatively simple; but in practice this is often not the case. Sometimes the differentiation between a stress disorder, somatoform disorder, panic attack, panic disorder, dissociative disorder, adolescent crisis and neurotic disorders is difficult. During child and adolescent development there are, along with severe stressors, many mild or less severe stressors, that can likewise cause health problems, and, in the case of vulnerable persons, more serious complications. The paediatrician, teacher, counsellor and others can identify them and to some extent treat them well. Different approaches to treatment, which is pleasant, diverse and has a good prognosis, are presented. Stress and somatoform disorders are among the most frequent mental disorders in children and adolescents. They represent an area in which the diagnostic and therapeutic role of the paediatrician is emphasized. The child with a somato form disorder is in distress, is suffering, his quality of life is impaired and, above all, it can negatively influence his further social and personal-emotional development. There is a need or a multi-faceted diagnostic assessment. For treatment, good communication and a cooperative relationship first of aII between the paediatrician, child and parents and also other professionals and the school, is paramount. Treatment emphasis is on a cognitive-behavioural and rehabilitative approach. If comorbid psychiatric disorders are detected treatment by a child psychiatrist is required.
