Abstrakt | The diagnosis of functional respiratory disorders is frequently time consuming and difficult. Functional respiratory disorders are often confused with more common respiratory diseases such as allergic asthma and rhinitis. Diagnostic mistakes lead to unnecessary and harmful treatment, which is unsuccessful. This presentation highlights the most common disorders, such as the hyperventilation syndrome, vocal cord dysfunction, psychogenic (habitual) cough, sighing dyspnoea, throat clearing tic, chest pain and sneezing attacks. The usual diagnostic methods used in the diagnosis of respiratory diseases are mentioned. It must be emphasised that treatment with asthma drugs is unsuccessful. Various breathing techniques, relaxation and psychological support are employed. The aim is to recognize the main characteristics of functional disorders that differentiate them from organic respiratory diseases and to avoid unnecessary treatment. | |
