Abstrakt     Different genetic and environmental factors are involved in expression of suicidal behaviour. Suicidal behaviour could be understood as a process influenced by risk and protective factors. During this process environmental factors could be changed in a way to stop the ongoing process toward suicide. Slovenia has one of the highest suicide rates in Europe (overall 29 per 100000). The aim of the study was to investigate the differences in expressed suicidal behaviour of patients in Urgent Psychiatry Outpatients Department (UPOD) at University Psychiatric Hospital Ljubljana regarding diagnoses and referrals from UPOD. From the case register of UPOD all admissions in year 2004 and 2005 were extracted. During this time 2707 patients were examined in UPOD (1607 women and 1100 man, mean age 43.5 years; SD-18 years). Suicidal ideations were observed in 22% of all patients and another 7% of patients were examined after suicide attempt. The chisquare analysis demonstrated a statistically significant difference in the frequency of suicidal behaviour between subgroups of patients with different diagnosis (chi=46;df=5;p<0.001). One third of the patients with mood disorders expressed suicidal behaviour. Special attention should be given to the patients with suicidal behaviour and mood disorders.
