Abstrakt     The article includes the results of research dealing with the qualification of health care providers in basic life support. 100 health care providers in the area of Maribor with a different degree of medical education were included randomly. The members of prehospital and other emergency departments were excluded. Results show that the knowledge of basic life support is insufficient in health care providers even though 3/4 of them have had education in this medical field in the last three years. According to our findings more than 90% of those participating in a survey would like to have continual education in basic life support. Both findings, insufficient knowledge of basic life support and the desire of health care providers for continual education, should focus our attention on providing the high-quality basic life support courses, especially those of the simulation type. This approach would allow the health care providers which seldom deal with the patients in cardiac arrest to gain sufficient knowledge and skills in the field of basic life support.
