Abstrakt     The development of the world history was slow. Half a century after the demonstration of the first working kidney transplanted on a dog (Dr. Ulmann 1902) the first successful transplantation of a human kidney from an identical twin was carried out (1954). This was only the first small stone from the mosaic of the later development. The immunologist studied the tissue compatibility. Pharmaceutical industry was involved in the immunosuppressive therapy development. The dialysis treatment enabled the kidney patients to wait for the transplantation. The legalisation of the brain death determination and the possibility to use the body parts of the deceased donors was of particular importance. The advance of intensive therapy helped to improve the donor maintenance. All this led to the full swing of the transplant activities and establishment of the international cooperation. The article presents the course of the transplant events in Slovenia. Beside the milestones set up by individual physicians (or teams), the legalisation of transplant activities and introduction of organisational measures are stressed. All the mentioned steps enabled the national transplant program to attain the present level.
