Abstrakt     Summary: Suicidal behaviour is attributable to many causes. A comprehensive method for identifying risk factors for suicide is to consider that they are composed of genetic and environmental influences and their interactions. As with other complex traits it is reasonable to argue that the liability to commit suicide is contributed to by multiple genetic and environmental factors and only those whose liability at some point exceeds a certain threshold actually manifest as completed suicide. Interactions between these factors occur at several stages in the development of suicide behaviour. Some genetic factors in suicide should be related to impulsivity and aggressiveness, which have their effects independently of, or additively to, a mental disorder. Only a comprehensive coverage of both genetic and environmental potential risk factors for suicidal behaviour and their interactions will enable us to provide a global view of risk for a developtnent of the suicidal behaviour. Only simultaneous research of all risk factors can lead to efficient approach to suicide prevention.
