Abstrakt     Aim: A sensor module for detecting the presence of removable orthodontic appliance in the patient's mouth could use as one of the criteria also the temperature of the environment where the appliance is placed. The aim of the study was to detect at different circumstances the mouth temperature during the removable orthodontic appliance wear. Material and methods: a sensor module for recording the mouth temperature was built into the Frankel appliance and the removable plate and connected with a wire to a microprocessor saving the incoming data. The two appliances, adjusted in this way, were worn by two subjects in everyday circumstances in a period of one week. The temperature was registered under different conditions of the appliance wear in the patient's mouth. The data, obtained by the sensor, transformed into degrees Celsius, were transferred every 12 hours to a computer for statistic analysis. Results: Different temperature values in different circumstances of the appliance wear were determined. During the Frankel appliance wear the temperature was 36,74; (SD+-1,06) in competent lip seal the temperature was 37,01; (SD+-0,66) degrees Celsius, and in incompetent lip seal 34,76; (SD+-1,44) degrees Celsius. During the removable plate wear the mouth temperature was 35,63; (SD+-1,17) degrees Celsius. Statistical significant difference was calculated while wearing Frankel appliance with closed or opened mouth (Student t-test, P<0.001) Statistical significant difference was also calculated between the temperatures the appliance was in and out of the mouth.
