Abstrakt     BACKGROUND. The purpose of the study was to analyse the impact of certain biological factors predicting the course of cervical cancer and compare them to the known clinical, pathomorphological and morphometric predictive factors. The major aim of the study was to find which of the analysed factors has the highest predictive power. METHODS. In 114 patients with cervical cancer, treated at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Medical Centre Ljubljana between 1995 and 1999, the tumor tissue was assessed for the presence of topoisomerase IIalpha proteins and collagen IV using immunohistochemical (IHC) testing. The obtained results were compared to those obtained by clinical, pathomorphological and morphometric predictive factors, and the impact of the analysed factors on the outcome of disease was assessed. Chi-square test was used for testing relationships among the variables. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. Multivariate analysis by Cox's proportional hazards model was used for ranking the importance of each predictive factor in prescribing cervical cancer treatment. Additionally, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was applied. All statistical analyses were made using SPSS 11.5 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, USA). (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
