Abstrakt | Background. A dental radiograph providing a two-dimensional image of the tooth often fails to supply adequate information for successful endodontic treatment. The aim of our study was to determine if magnetic resonance (MR) microscopy is a more accurate method for assessing the pulp chamber and root canals. Materials and methods: We made MR images of 16 extracted human teeth using the three-dimensional spin-echo technique with a resolution of 100 Nm in all three spatial directions. The images were post-processed to obtain a threedimensional view of the dental pulp. Conclusion: The technique used in our study offers detailed information on the pulp chamber and the number and shape of root canals. With further development, MR microscopy is likely to replace conventional dental radiography and improve the outcome of endodontic treatment. | |
Izvleček | Izhodišče: Rentgenska slika je dvodimenzionalna projekcija zoba in za uspešno endodontsko delo pogosto ne da dovolj zanesljivih podatkov o pulpini votlini. Namen našega dela je bil ugotoviti, ali lahko z magnetnoresonančno (MR) mikroskopijo bolj natančno prikažemo pulpino komoro in koreninske kanale. Materiali in metode: Z MR-tehniko slikanja trodimenzionalnega spinskega odmeva smo naredili MR-slike 16 izdrtih človeških zob z ločljivostjo 100 qm. MR-slike smo naknadno programsko obdelali, da smo dobili prostorsko sliko zobne pulpe. Zaključek: Na tako obdelani in pripravljeni trodimezionalni MR-sliki izdrtega zoba lahko natančno prikažemo pulpino komoro, število koreninskih kanalov in njihov potek. Z nadaljnjim razvojem MR-tehnologije bi pri endodontskem zdravljenju MR-mikroskopija lahko nadomestila običajno rentgensko slikanje in povečala uspešnost kliničnega dela. | |
