Abstrakt		Ever-longer Iife expectancy results in an increase in the elderly population, and, by way of that, the consequent need for a comprehensive and integrated approach to all issues related to the aged. Consideration of every aspect of the life of an elderly person requires multidisciplinary collaboration between healthcare and other professionals, as well as the implementation of knowledge and expertise drawn from a great many areas. At the same time, treatment of an elderly person by the outpatient department is also of major importance in the provision of integral care. This paper provides an introduction to the psycho-geriatric outpatient department at the Department for Clinical Psychiatry of University Psychiatry Hospital in Ljubljana, Slovenia, as well as an overview of first referral with regard to the socio-demographic factors, cognitive impairment, as well as diagnosis and the utilisation of various services provided within the context of the outpatient department. Although the psychogeriatric outpatient department significantly contributes to the provision of appropriate care for the elderly, a lot more attention must be paid to the promotion and enhancement of public awareness regarding this subject, and in particular to the establishment of a variety of services and activities through a support network that is able to provide both the elderly and their relatives with the necessary support and assistance.
