Abstrakt     Food presents the main way for intake of polychlorinated organic pollutants (POPS) into human body. During risk assessment of dioxin exposure in human food other contributions of endogenous and exogenous carcinogens or mutagens should also be evaluated. Assessment of possible risk of dioxins anticipates that exposure to such compounds at background concentration levels is already at the limit or nearby the limit when the compounds could provoke health changes. World health organization (WHO) is lowered the tolerable daily intake (TDI) by food from 10 pg 2,3,7,8-TCDD per kg of body weight per day to 1- 4 pg/kg. Mean exposure of European population is under 10 pg 2,3,7,8-TCDD per kg of body weight per day and is still lowering. Official control in Slovenia is performing as monitoring during regular control in the frame of yearly programs. Results of investigation show that the content of pollutants in 1270 food samples does not exceed the values regulated by Slovenian legislation.
